MEGGER Seminar: Battery Backup and Circuit Breaker Testing (EN)
This free Megger seminar is focusing on battery back-up systems and circuit breakers. This informative session will cover key insights into maintaining and testing electrical systems, with hands-on opportunities. Participation is free, but registration requested.
Starter of the day: Safety issues and hazards in battery back-up systems
The stationary backup batteries are the life line in any safety system, a life line that simply cannot fail. In order to ensure safe operation it is recommended to implement a sound and solid battery maintenance program.
(1) The Megger MGFL100 is a specialized instrument designed to locate ground faults in battery systems without shutting them down. It also enables you to locate ground faults on Isolated-Terra (IT) grounded AC systems up to 600Vac.
(2) Regular testing of storage batteries, particularly those used to provide emergency supplies, is essential. The batteries often sit unnoticed and unused for long periods, and they give little outward indication of deterioration or failure. Yet if they fail to perform as expected when called upon to do so, the result can be catastrophic.
Discover Megger’s instrumentation solutions that can measure, trend, and manage the life cycle of battery systems: TORKEL and BITE series to implement your discharge test.
Main coarse: Circuit Breaker Testing
Circuit breakers are some of the most important components in modern electric power systems. The circuit breaker has to operate within extremely tight tolerances when a disturbance is detected in the network to protect sensitive and costly components such as transformers. They have to operate after months or in some cases years of inactivity.
(3) To ensure proper function and optimize network reliability, reliable and efficient test instruments and methods for Circuit Breaker Testing are needed. An overview of test methods and parameters.
(4) DualGround™ is a test method developed by Megger to perform timing while the circuit breaker is grounded on both sides. This allows you to always work between safety grounds, thus negating induced current that flows through the test equipment under normal timing conditions with only one side grounded. This method has become a method to test circuit breakers in GIS, Gas insulated switchgears, with difficult configurations, impossible to test under normal conditions and without making any adaption to the installed switchgear connection.
(5) The new EGIL200 circuit breaker analyser is a complete toolbox for daily, hassle-free circuit breaker condition assessments. it offers all standard measurements from IEEE C37 and IEC 62271 standards and brings high-end features into the affordable mid-range segment. Best practices in CB are explained with demonstrations of the EGIL200.
(6) During the seminar there is a continuous product show of different Megger products.
